PSI/Tanzania to provide family planning services at DITF.

Dar es Salaam 16th June 2010 … PSI/Tanzania is going to provide counseling and services of long and short term family planning to clients during the 34th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) due to start on June 28th at Mwalimu Nyerere Grounds in Dar es Salaam

Revealing the news in Dar es Salaam today the PSI Director of Corporate Affairs, Mary Mwanjelwa, said although the organization has been participating in the event for quite sometimes now, but this is going to be the first time that the organization is going to provide services at the Grounds.

“In the past we only used to do a product talk and display but this time around we have decided to go further than that by providing both counseling and services to those in need of planning their family,” she said.

She noted that recent researches have found out that hundreds of Tanzanians would wish to space for their family; however their main challenge has remained to be where to get services and also proper information about modern family planning methods.

“There are a lot of misconceptions about modern family planning methods. So many people have wrong information about short and long term family planning methods and we want to address that as well and DITF is a good opportunity for us to do that.”

She said PSI/Tanzania reproductive health’s counselor and service providers will be on the Ground for the whole period of exhibitions and that counseling and services will be offered to client after a consultation and in private.

Mary said apart from family planning services, the organization will as well do product talk and display to its other products that includes all PSI/Tanzania Salama condom brands, IUCD’s, Ngao and WaterGuard.

“At the pavilion, our beautiful and kind staff will be on hand to explain to the visitors on various activities performed by PSI Tanzania and the correct usage of our products,” she said.

This is a second time that PSI/Tanzania is participating in the event under one “Health City’’-under the umbrella of the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in which all the organizations working under the ministry have been put, the Ministry first introduced this system during last year’s DITF. Since its introduction in the country in the year 1993,

PSI/Tanzania has always been participating in DITF.
